COVID-19 Tumuaki update Friday 29 October

Hi all

It has been lovely to have about half of our Senior Students back on-site this week and able to support them in person with their NCEA qualifications.   Please know we are doing everything we can to ensure the Health, Safety, and Well-being of all onsite and I would like to thank the Senior students onsite for the fantastic way they have done this and followed all precautions this week.

We do also understand that some of you are choosing to remain distance learning at this time and we are happy to support you with that.  If you have not been on-site and have not been in touch with your Mentor teacher this week could you please ensure you do that as soon as possible so we can discuss your plans and the remainder of the year with you personally.

If you are continuing with distance learning then please ensure the following form is still completed so we know your plans for NCEA this year…

A huge congratulations to those students who have attained their NCEA qualifications so far – we are sending out emails with certificates of completion as this happens so you will know when you reach your goal.

External examinations

Whilst these are not optional this year students (in consultation with their parents/whanau and teachers) can choose whether they wish to attend them in person OR use the ‘Unexpected Event Grade’ that they can get by completing work set by their teachers.   If you are not sure please discuss your individual situation with your Mentor or Classroom Teacher.  If you do not choose to sit your exam onsite, (and I understand there may be many reasons why you choose not to) and you have an ‘Unexpected Event Grade’ then you will automatically receive this grade.  Again, if you have any questions or want to know what your Unexpected Event Grade is then you can discuss this with your classroom teacher.

Next week we will be continuing with our adapted senior timetable as follows:

  1. Session 1: 9.30 to 11.45   (Gates open 9.15 to 9.45 am)

Junior students return to onsite learning

You may have seen the announcement by the Minister of Education on Wednesday that students in years 1 to 8 may begin returning to onsite learning from the 15th of November.  No date has been given for the return of Year 9 and 10 students as yet but I will update you as any further information becomes available.

Please rest assured that any return will be carefully managed from a health and safety as well as student and staff wellbeing perspective.

Vaccinations

All of the staff onsite at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø have had at least one vaccination shot and will be fully vaccinated in the next few weeks.  They have done this to do their best to support the health and safety of the students in our care and each other.  Whilst not required all students are strongly encouraged to have had at least one shot of the vaccine before returning to onsite learning.  Further information about the vaccine and how to get it is available here:
